Glenn Swogger, Jr., M.D. retired in 1993 after 22 years at the Menninger Clinic, where he was director of the Will Menninger Center for Applied Behavioral Sciences. He is currently Chairman of the Kaw Valley Bank, a family business.

Born in Topeka in 1935, Dr. Swogger received a Ford Foundation Early Entrance Scholarship, graduating with a B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1954 and from Case Western Reserve Medical School in 1960. After completing psychiatric residency at Albert Einstein/Bronx Municipal Hospital and military service as a staff psychiatrist at St. Albans Naval Hospital, Dr. Swogger was in private practice in New York until 1971, when he returned to Topeka on the staff of the Menninger Clinic. After working for several years in the hospital and psychotherapy services, he moved in 1976 to full time commitment to the Menninger Center for Applied Behavioral Sciences, which included programs for group homes, disabled workers, and organizations. He specialized in consulting to executives, couples and organizations, particularly family businesses. He has written and lectured widely in these areas and is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, as well as past president of the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organizations.

Dr. Swogger continues to study and write in areas of special interest to him, including the psychology of environmental concerns, ethics in leaders and organizations, the psychological assumptions of the US Constitution, and the psychology of was and pacifism. His hobbies include travel, jogging and “playing a musical instrument-my hi-fi set.”
